Thanks for the advice on the mac vs pc purchase. I will be going the mac route and now need to decide whether to keep it simple with a macbook or go for a bigger screen on a macbook pro.
Anyone have advice on where to buy? The Apple store may seem like the easy route but I have seen some other sites that offer discounts on what appears to be the same machine. Do people usually buy their mac straight from Apple?

I tend to buy from MacMall. You can shop around a bit but I do think they have pretty good deals, better than the Apple store. You might hunt around online a bit.

I've bought a couple from amazon - every once in a while they have decent deals. Def buy your ram separately and install yourself if you''re going to max the thing out (which I highly recommend). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about crap, be happy to help.
